FG BOOST RICE PRODUCTION IN BAYELSA STATE

The Federal Government has shown commitment to support agriculture, as it is currently supporting Niger Delta ex-militant, Mr Paul Eris, popularly known as General Ogunboss, in rice production in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The Federal Government ,through the Ministry of Agriculture matched words with action by providing 320 paddies in the first quarters in 2017, and 10 tonnage rice mill to boost production in the state and country. Elated Eris said the rice project, known as Peremabiri Rice Farm, which occupies 2,500 hectares in Southern Ijaw, was on a mission to bridge the insufficient gap in rice production and to reduce importation of rice in the country. JAMB will not reschedule UTME exam for latecomers, says Oloyede

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said on Saturday that there would be no rescheduling of examination for candidates who reported late for the mop-up examination. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said this while reacting to complaints by candidates sitting for the mop-up examination at the board’s Computer-Based Centre (CBT) in Bwari, FCT. Oloyede, who led  some staff members on the supervision of the exercise, said the exam was a supplementary Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) being conducted in 170 centres across the country. Niger Delta Youth leader urges peace in Brass LGA to attract investment

Mr Kenedy Tonjo-West, a Niger Delta youth leader, has urged youths in Brass Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa, to promote peace in order to sustain investors’ interest in the coastal settlement. Tonjo-West, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Niger Delta Youth Matters, made this call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa on Saturday. The youth leader gave the advice against the backdrop of the leadership crisis that rocked the election of youth leaders in the area, which compelled the Local Government chairman to suspend the election in order to avert violence. He noted that the Brass LGA chapter of the Niger Delta Youths Coalition for Peace and Progress (NDYCPP), which comprised of non violent youths, usually reached out to stakeholders in the area to promote peace and harmony. TRAGEDY STRIKES BRASS ISLAND AS A WELL KNOWN FIRST CLASS WELDER DIES IS ACTION

A known first class welder named Brandi died while handling a welding work at Diema area in Brass Island. The welder who lives at Imbikiri Twon Brass, an indigene of Odioama in Brass LGA was arranged by a friend to work at Diema area. While in the process of the work he was knocked down by part of the iron he was working on, other members at the site who were involved in other section of the work escaped successfully but the deceased Mr. Brandi was trapped due the muddy environment of the work. Mr. Brandi who is married with children also caring of nieces and nephews suddenly left his family in sorrows, meanwhile Mr. Brandi also lost one of his niece just a week ago. May He RIP.

A Kenyan family is griped with shock and joy as their 'dead and buried' son, Vincent Oguyi returns home to them.  Oyugi, who lives in a rented house in the outskirts of Narok Town, was believed to have died in an accident last August. It was believed that he was inside a pick-up delivering vegetables to a local market when the vehicle veered off the road and killed three people working on a nearby farm.  According to Daily Nation, the news of his death sparked off funeral arrangements, which resulted into the collection and burial of a body thought to be Oyugi’s on Sunday, December 4, 2016.  His mother explained that an autopsy and identification of the body was done at the Narok County Hospital before they were granted permission to take it for burial. Isaac Adaka Boro was one of the early people who began the struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria He challenged the exploitation and deprivation of the region as the resources were being channeled to develop other regions of the country  He declared the Niger Delta republic in 1966 but was jailed for treason by Aguiyi Ironsi's military administration When stories are recounted about Nigeria and how the General Ojukwu’s declaration of the Republic of Biafra which led to the 18 months civil war, not much is said about the declaration of the first Republic within Nigeria called the Niger Delta Republic.
